Mandy's Mission: Knitting Every Colour of Stylecraft Special DK

Some people set themselves a challenge and quietly get on with it. And then there's Mandy.

Mandy is one of our wonderful regulars at Over The Hook's Knit and Natter groups, and she has embarked on what might be the most gloriously ambitious knitting project we have ever witnessed: knitting a complete outfit for every single colour of Stylecraft Special DK. Bags, jumpers, dresses — tiny, exquisitely crafted outfits for knitted rabbits and woodland creatures, inspired by the beloved Little Cotton Rabbit knitting patterns by Julia Crossland.

There are, at the time of writing, 125 shades of Stylecraft Special DK. Mandy has not flinched. Mandy has not wavered. Mandy is simply getting on with it, one tiny woodland wardrobe at a time, and we are in absolute awe.

This post is dedicated to Mandy's Mission. We'll be updating it as new outfits are completed — consider it a living gallery of tiny knitwear, a love letter to Stylecraft Special DK, and proof that the Over The Hook community contains some of the most talented and wonderfully determined makers anywhere in Suffolk.

Why Little Cotton Rabbit?

If you haven't come across Little Cotton Rabbit before, prepare yourself. Julia Crossland's patterns are the gold standard of knitted toy making — charming, beautifully designed, and utterly irresistible. The rabbits, foxes, bears and other woodland creatures that emerge from her patterns are the kind of thing that makes grown adults go slightly weak at the knees. And when you dress them in hand-knitted outfits? In every colour of Stylecraft Special DK? Well. That's something else entirely.
