Beginner Crochet
Ever wanted to learn to crochet but not sure where to start? Our beginner 1-2-1 crochet sessions are the perfect introduction — just you, your tutor, and a ball of yarn. Held in the relaxed surroundings of Over The Hook, these private sessions are tailored entirely to you, so you can learn at your own pace with no pressure and plenty of encouragement. Want to share the experience? Feel free to bring a friend along — learning together makes it even more fun! In your first session you'll learn how to hold your hook, create a slip knot, work a foundation chain, and get to grips with the basic stitches that form the building blocks of almost every crochet project. By the end you'll have the confidence to pick up your hook and get started on your very first make. All materials and yarn are included, and you'll leave with a little goodie bag of essentials to get you started at home. No experience needed — just bring yourself and a love of making!
Introduction to Sashiko with Emma from Crafts with Heart
Join us for a beautiful introduction to Sashiko — the traditional Japanese art of decorative stitching — hosted by the wonderfully talented Emma from Crafts with Heart. Sashiko, which means "little stabs" in Japanese, uses simple running stitches worked in white thread on indigo fabric to create stunning geometric patterns. It's rhythmic, mindful, and incredibly satisfying — and once you've tried it, you won't want to stop. In this beginner-friendly session, Emma will guide you through the history and origins of Sashiko, how to transfer patterns onto fabric, and the fundamental stitching technique. You'll leave with a beautiful finished piece to take home and the skills to continue your Sashiko journey. All materials are provided, including fabric, thread, needles, and a pattern to keep.
