I Said the C Word — Meet My New Blanket Project
Share
The C Word. I Said It.
It's August. The sun is (occasionally) shining. And I am already making a Christmas blanket. If you're a crafter, you understand. If you're not — welcome, and please know that we don't have a choice in the matter.
The Project — Quiet Sky by MadebyAnita
I've been wanting to make one of Anita Gibney's patterns for a while now, and I've finally taken the plunge. The pattern is Quiet Sky by MadebyAnita — Anita works with Stylecraft and her designs are just beautiful. I cannot wait to get my teeth stuck into this one.
I've watched the video and I am confident. This is happening. Watch me.
My Colourway — and the Inspiration Behind It
Now, as is tradition, I have gone rogue on the colourway. The original is stunning, but I wanted something that felt very me for this one.
My inspiration? Sugar cookies, pinecones, and cinnamon sticks — all the warm, spiced cosiness of Christmas — combined with the cool blues and silvers of a proper winter wonderland. Festive but not garish. Cosy but with a frosty edge. Basically everything I want from December in blanket form.
I'm working with Stylecraft Special DK in:
The blues and silver bring the winter wonderland magic, while the Stone and Gingerbread give it that warm, biscuity, cinnamon-stick cosiness. I am very pleased with this combination and I will not be taking questions.
How Big Will It Be?
The finished blanket will be 140cm x 140cm — which is a proper, generous size. Big enough to drape across your bed for a festive bedroom moment, or to bundle yourself up on the sofa for film night. Speaking of which, my personal plan is to be snuggled under this very blanket watching The Polar Express on Christmas Eve. That is the goal. That is the dream. The blanket will be ready. I will make sure of it.
Want to Make It Too?
The pattern is easy to find online, and Anita has a brilliant YouTube video to help you along — watch it here. We also have patterns in store, so pop in and grab one!
If you'd like to make it in the original colourway, I can put that together for you. Or if you fancy something different — your own sugar cookie and snowflake moment — come in and we'll have fun choosing your own combination. That's honestly one of my favourite things to do.
Follow Along!
I'll be sharing my progress as I go — though fair warning, if you blink you might miss me finishing it. I do have a habit of making things disappear at speed when I get going. Follow along, join in, or just enjoy watching someone else be productive. All are valid. 🧶
